McEwan wins gold medal

Posted

Team USA’s Danielle McEwan from Stony Point, New York set the tone early in her singles block on a demanding 38-foot oil pattern to collect the first gold medal at the 2022 PANAM Bowling Women’s Championships.

The 31-year-old right hander rolled 247 to start singles at the Bowling Center of LaVilla Deportiva Nacional (VIDENA) in Lima, Peru, and remained in control of the pocket during her six games to claim the victory with a 1,299 total (216.5 average).

McEwan added games of 213, 212, 234, 199 and 193.

The 2022 PANAM Women’s Championships includes 11 countries from the Western Hemisphere competing in singles, doubles, trios and team competition. The top overall performers also will be recognized with medals in all-events.

As team USA prepared for doubles, teammates felt the singles competition set the stage for the rest of the matches.

Giving reference to the singles competition McEwan said, “Our number one goal in every event is to have someone wearing USA and hearing our national anthem on top of the podium.

The 2022 PANAM Women’s Championship concluded with final squad team competition and the medalists and the medalist in team and all-events will be recognized and shared in the moment with the rest of their teammates.

They know every medal earned is part of the collective effort of the team, and that success doesn’t come together without communication and support.

Bowling Tip by Mike Luongo

Repeating a good bowling shot requires bowlers to release the ball the same way shot after shot.

This week we will talk about the release and offer information that will help bowlers of all levels.

A properly executed release is possibly one of the most misunderstood parts of a bowling shot. Most bowlers want to muscle the ball through the release zone, and they do this by accelerating or decelerating on the downswing.

The proper release for all bowlers is executed by letting gravity bring the ball from the top of the swing through the release zone with no interference from your arm or shoulder muscles.

If the ball fits properly, gravity will take it off your hand at the right time, providing your body is in the proper position. Any rotation on the ball should come from your hand only, not your arm.

Using the proper technique will allow you to get as much rotation on the ball as desired.

When your bowling ball does not fit properly this is where it will require excessive grip pressure to hold on to which will make the release harder to execute.

Gravity can be your best friend or worst enemy depending on how you use it.
