Memorial Day Parade returns to Fremont

A tradition steeped in 138 years of history will be returning to Fremont Center on Monday, May 30, when the Annual Town of Fremont Memorial Day Parade steps off at 10 a.m. A Flag Folding Ceremony in honor of Gerard “Buddy” Dertinger will be held at the Veterans Monument next to the Fremont Town Hall at 9:30. The Fremont Memorial Day Parade is the second oldest Memorial Day Parade in New York State, and this year the theme will be WWII – Battle of Midway. Following the parade, Dr. Christopher S. Roman, DO, will be the guest speaker at the Fremont Ballfield followed by awards presented by Fremont Supervisor Brian Brustman. Roads around Fremont Center will close at 9 a.m. in preparation for the activities. Above is Allen Kellam saluting the flag during the 2015 Fremont Parade. The Mileses resident was a veteran of two wars – Korea and Vietnam – and retired as a Warrant Officer third grade.

Please call Tony Wayne at (607) 290-4002 for more information. See next Friday’s Democrat for a complete list of Memorial Day parades and services.
