Michael J. Bryant Memorial Fund announces 2022 Grant Winners

HONESDALE, PA - The Michael J. Bryant Memorial Fund awarded $10,000 in Wayne County grants this spring. Established in June 2008, the Memorial Fund has distributed more than $61,000 to challenged individuals and nonprofit organizations. It continues to grow with contributions from family, friends and the upcoming 10th annual Herd the Curd 5K race on Saturday, September 3. Administered by the Wayne County Community Foundation, this is the tenth consecutive year the Fund awarded community grants.

During his life, Michael Bryant overcame many obstacles caused by developmental disabilities, giving him a special sensitivity to people who had such needs. He also was devoted to his community, volunteering his time to the local fire company.

The Bryant family is pleased to announce the 2022 Michael J. Bryant Memorial Fund grant winners.

  • Dyberry Day Camp – Grant will fund a field trip for approximately 50 to 55 campers this July. Dyberry Day camp serves challenged children in Wayne County for 20 days each July.
  • Community Vocational Services –Grant will fund piano lessons for a young adult who benefits from the organization’s services.
  • Pennsylvania Elks Major Project – Grant will help offer two experienced nurses who will provide free services to at least 40 children, youth and adults with disabilities for a one-year period. Services will be made available to persons living anywhere throughout Wayne County. The nurses will work one-on-one with each person and their family or other caregivers.
  • Wallenpaupack Area School District – Grant will provide the Wallenpaupack North Intermediate School Emotional Support Students (grade 3 to 5) with four sessions of equine therapy through a renewed partnership between the school district and Fair Hill Therapeutic Riding Center.
  • Wayne County Office of Behavioral and Developmental Programs – Grant will fund safety equipment for a teen enrolled in the program.
