Miracles do happen

First there was a Sedar at my church on Saturday. My son and I thought it was on the 15th but could we have gotten it wrong? Maybe it had taken place on the 8th and we had missed it. But after checking we found it was indeed on the 15th but not at noon as Mike thought but at 6 PM.

I brought pickled eggs and beets. Some people never had them before so I knew from other years, I would  be called upon to explain just what they were. I took pleasure in explaining that one would often see them in a big jar behind the bar at various establishments. Many people would rush to deny ever hanging out at bars.

But another place to spot them was on the counter at the TV show of Rose Ann. There was more denial re that-”Never watch that show.”

Then there were often rumors that I had brought deviled eggs so I was quick to explain that one should never bring anything deviled to a church. Then I encountered a stricken look on someone’s face when she said that someone had brought deviled eggs. I was approaching that person as I moved along, dishing up food on my plate.

Then I said she was stealing my joke and she replied that she didn’t know it was a joke. All of that has nothing to do with miracles. The first one I want to tell you about is the one that my granddaughter’s sister experienced when she went to the hospital in California where she lives because she was having labour pains. For some reason the baby wasn’t moving down and after doing X-rays, it was discovered that the cord was wrapped around the baby’s neck three times.  A caesarean was performed and everything turned out okay.

The next miracle involved my friend, Bobby Mann whose doctor told him months ago that there was  no longer any treatment that would be effective for his Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a cancer that Bobby has been battling for years. He even gave him an approximate date that he wouldn’t be able to live beyond. That is something doctors are reluctant to do.

I was having trouble reaching Bobby by phone but our mutual friend, Kathy was successful and she set up a lunch date for the three of us to meet. I felt that Bobby would be inclined to cancel because of his condition.

That didn’t happen. In fact, Bobby looked especially healthy and strong. He has a new doctor now who has resumed treatments which seem to be working. Bobby thoroughly enjoyed his lunch and his visit with us. It was a true miracle.
