MONTICELLO –– Summer is rapidly coming to an end and the 2022-23 school year is right around the corner. With school out of session, it is important for athletes to stay at the top of their game with offseason workouts and training. For Monticello, their annual summer league for basketball is a great way to keep working hard even when school is on break.

Monticello, Fallsburg and Port Jervis were the three schools able to make it for this summer’s offseason scrimmages, a lesser turnout than years past.

“We were a bit disappointed that we couldn’t get some of the other teams to participate, but it was great to be back in the gym for the summer,” Monticello coach Chris Russo said.

“In the end, it was a good experience for players and coaches. We did some skill work each night, followed by competitive games. It is important that players put in the work to improve during the summer, and this was another opportunity to do that.”

Russo went on to thank those involved in making the league happen.

“I want to thank Coach White and Coach Puopolo for helping me keep this thing going, Mike Berstein for coordinating the officials, and Kurt Buddenhagen and our district administration for their support.”
