Move on from the ‘Big Lie'

To the editor:

In one of his most insidious columns to date Ed Townsend has decided to cast his vote in favor of the Big Lie that Trump won the 2020 election.

I need not reiterate the overwhelming proof that the election was not rigged, especially since all fifty states certified their respective results, regardless of political party leanings.

But the violent, nasty and murderous crowd that stormed the Capitol in January, as urged by Trump decided that results didn't matter—just disrupt the official congressional count, even if it meant possibly killing some lawmakers, and then reinstall that White House thug, while doing away with our democracy.

Townsend's March 9 column reveals a degree of sympathy with Trump and his mob, insinuating that due to the absentee mail-in voting method, “the risk of (voter) fraud is vastly more prevalent…” Then Townsend cites Supreme Court Justice, Thomas, and Trump appointees, Alito and Gorsuch, as though they are anything other than outright Trump supporters in judicial robes.

Townsend and others may continue to deny that Biden won the election, but no matter how hard they try to come up with phony excuses for Trump's loss, it won't work. With hope we'll see a national renewal as the new president successfully tackles, sadly without GOP support, the COVID crisis, the economic near-downfall, the environment, the joblessness, racial disparity, and much more.

Townsend can sit in his lonely corner and sulk, but America is moving forward again, with or without his blessings.
