Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Schmidt of Monticello, NY was called home to the Lord on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at home. She was 99.

She was born February 28, 1921 in Liberty, NY the daughter of the late Herbert L. Smith and the late Eva Stanton Smith.

Dot was married for 42 years to Frederick C. Schmidt prior to his death on December 7, 1982.

Dot was an owner and operator of the Schmidt's Wholesale, Inc. in Monticello. She was very involved with the business and worked along with her husband Fred and her son Gary to grow the business, until she retired at 77. Not only was Dot an owner of Schmidt's Wholesale but was looked to as a mentor and mother figure for many of their employees. She was the matriarch of the business and the family and is still remembered by many customers and employees of the business. She will be greatly missed by all.

She was an active member of Monticello United Methodist Church, Monticello, NY where she served on various committees over the years and was very active with the Wesleyan Service Guild.

She is survived by her loving son, Gary C. Schmidt and his companion Tiffany Pitula of Monticello, NY beloved daughter-in-law, Linda Schmidt of Chester, NJ, grandson Daniel G. Schmidt and his wife Liliana and great grandson Wyatt of Nottingham, NH, grandson Christopher G. Schmidt and his wife Lisa and granddaughter Megan of Liberty, NY, grandson, Andrew Schmidt and his companion Gissell Malfitano of Manhattan, NY, grandson: Peter Schmidt and his wife Megan of Manhattan, NY, grandson, Josh Schmidt and his fiancé Karen Deng of San Francisco, CA. Also several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son: Dale Schmidt, her brother, Nelson Smith and her daughter-in-law Mary May Schmidt.

The family would like to thank all of Dot's caregivers over the past 11 years, with a special thank you to Nadiya Levosyuk, who cared for our beloved Dot for over 5 years.

Visitation will be private and a graveside funeral service and burial will be Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Liberty Cemetery, 17 Cemetery Road, Liberty, NY 12754.

Memorial contributions may be made to Monticello United Methodist Church, “The Memorial Fund”, 445 Broadway, Monticello, NY 12701.
