SWAN LAKE — At approximately 4:45 on Saturday morning, a fire broke out at 87 Old White Lake Turnpike in Swan Lake. The structure fire involved multiple buildings in the Tolaas Yakov Bungalow Colony.
White Lake Fire Company was requested for a tanker on the scene. But unfortunately, their tanker was out of service. So they were then updated to an engine and for all available manpower to head to the scene.
35-11 and 10 firefighters responded, with truck 35-11 setting up the initial attack on the back side of the blaze. They were able to save one structure from the intense fire.
“We battled water supply issues, falling electric lines, and many propane tank bleves during operations,” White Lake Fire Company said. “We operated several attack lines as well as fed Liberty’s ladder truck. Great job to everyone involved!”
Liberty Fire Department also responded along with multiple other Departments for mutual aid.
Kauneongo Lake, White Sulphur Springs, Hurleyville, Loch Sheldrake, Lake Huntington, Hortonville, Lava, Jeffersonville, Rock Hill, and Monticello Fire Departments were all on the scene as well. Roscoe-Rockland Fire Department and Smallwood-Mongauap Valley Fire Department were both on standby as well.
The cause of the fire is currently being investigated by New York State Police. None of the buildings were reported to be occupied at the time of the fire. Several were still under construction, according to the White Lake Fire Department.
