National Library Card Signup Month

What is the first thing you think about when you hear the word library? For many it is ‘books', but there is so much more.

All you need is your library card and it will open up the door to our digital collections, databases, materials from 47 member libraries in the Ramapo Catskill Library System, and many services including faxing, copying, and printing. National Library Card Signup Month is winding down, but really, you can sign up for a library card any time of the year.

With some limitations still in place due to the pandemic, it is the perfect time to highlight some digital offerings. Start by visiting your local library's website.

Did you know that you can borrow e-books and audiobooks for free using the OverDrive or Libby apps from your tablet or cell phone? OverDrive can also be accessed from your computer or laptop, and includes e-magazines and videos to stream as well.

After you explore the digital collection, see if there is anything that interests you on our shelves. Either access your library's catalog from their website to search for books, DVDs, books-on-CD, and other materials, or download the RCLS Gateway app from your app store. Here you can search the catalog, but also see what items you have checked out and renew what you would like to keep.

Ready to learn something new? Check out your library's databases. Here you will find Rosetta Stone Library Solutions, JobsNow career resources, genealogy tools, historical newspapers, Business Insights, and research resources for students, just to name a few. If you are asked to login, use your library card barcode number and your pin number which is usually the last four digits of your telephone number.

Many libraries are on social media now and offer virtual programming for all ages. Follow your library on Instagram and Facebook and enjoy a program or two from the comfort of your home.
