“Old way” was better

To the editor:
Being an “old timer” I seem to remember when the county roads were cleaned up by the prisoners at Woodbourne state prison. The inmates that participated in this program enjoyed exercise, fresh air and a change of scenery.
These prisoners already have their housing, food and healthcare paid for by the general public. Special action by the Department of Parks, Recreation and Beautification wasn’t needed. Free “disposal coupons” and county residents weren’t needed to keep our roadways clean for our summer guests. Perhaps the “old way” was better.
