FORESTBURGH – After five years of revision, the Town of Forestburgh’s updated Zoning Codes are nearly fully finished.
Forestburgh Planning Board Chairman Richard Robbins spoke on the progress before the Town Board Thursday night, and noted that by the hard work of a number of people involved in the revisions that sit on the Zoning Rewrite Committee, the zoning code is now on the last few steps on becoming an “up-to-date, modern, and comprehensive” version. Robbins continued on to say that he is happy to have reached this last stage.
Discussion regarding the proposed Neighborhood Business District (B1) parcel of the town was prompted after Robbins asked the board to accept a modification to the parcel that was separately proposed by the committee.
According to Robbins, this modification is because one of the lots in B1 parcel had been included in the Black Brook Forest Subdivision that was created a number of years ago. Due to this, former municipal governing boards made a condition of approval that there could be no commercial activity on those lots.
To remedy this, a suggestion was made by the committee and was backed by Robbins to remove that specific lot from the B1 parcel. Robbins noted that he would not approve of any other removal of lots from the parcel.
Public comment heard opinions on the proposal put out by Robbins. The proposal was met with opposition as one Forestburgh resident noted her displeasure with the proposed modification, stating her wish for the Board to adopt the recommendations as previously given.
Subsequently, however, the Town Board approved the changes as submitted by Robbins and the committee.
As a result of this, an introduction of Local Law #1 of 2023, which “starts the process” of instating the revised zoning codes with a public hearing set for June 6 at 6 p.m. at the Forestburgh Fire Department Firehouse, was approved by the Board that night.
