Onteora defeats LMR in season finale

LIVINGSTON MANOR – The Blue Devils concluded their season on Saturday afternoon with a non-league matchup against the Onteora Eagles. The 18- 8 loss marked the end of the 2022 campaign for the Blue Devils, who finished 0-9 on the year.

Injuries were a huge factor in the winless season, after making it to the 8-man playoffs just a year ago. The game against Onteora was no different, as the combined Livingston Manor/Roscoe squad lost two starters in the game.

After three scoreless quarters, Onteora found the end zone to take a 6 to 0 lead, and promptly returned an interception for a touchdown on the next Blue Devils drive to double their score. Anthony Zamenick was picked off after stepping up to attempt a pass and was injured on the play.

On their lone scoring drive in the fourth quarter, Bobby Staudt, who had replaced the injured Anthony Zamenick at QB, led the Blue Devils on a 2 play 40-yard touchdown drive, finding Logan Park for the score to keep the Blue Devils within a score.

Unfortunately for the Blue Devils, time was not on their side, and a lost fumble sealed the fate for the game as the Eagles drove down and scored to take an 18 to 8 lead with time winding down. The Blue Devils battled until the final whistle, just as they had all year under the tutelage of Coach Mike Hill, but it was not meant to be.

“Offensively we moved the ball pretty well, but we made our share of mistakes late and it cost us the game,” Coach Hill said. “We had to make some adjustments, and the team responded well to those changes. It was a good game between two pretty evenly matched teams.”
