Osvaldo “Ozzie” Gonzalez Jr. of Smallwood passed away after a long battle with cancer at the Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, CT on Thursday, January 27, 2022.  He was 64.

The son of the late Osvaldo Gonzalez Sr. and Julia Quiles Gonzalez, he was born April 5, 1957 in Juncos, Puerto Rico.

Ozzie was a United States Army veteran of 24 years; a volunteer Chief, Assistant Chief and firefighter at the Smallwood-Mongaup Valley Fire Company; an ambulance driver, member and former lieutenant of the Bethel Volunteer Ambulance Corp.; and local constable, based out of Smallwood, NY. A well-respected and loved member of the community, he had a focus on supporting, uplifting and guarding the loved ones around him. Ozzie was a pillar of the community and his family. 

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Lee Gonzalez; six children, Robyn Gonzalez, William (Tina) Gonzalez, Richard (Jennifer) Gonzalez, Timothy Gonzalez, Crystal Gonzalez, and Juliana Gonzalez; three adoring grandchildren, Cortez, Natalia and Sophia; mother-in-law Marian O’Rourke; sister-in-law Elizabeth Klein and her children Sarah, Rachel and Joseph who he loved as his own; as well as an extensive extended family. He was one of eight children; Luis Viera of FL, Margerita Viera of PR, Maria Viera of FL, John Gonzalez of NY, Joe Gonzalez of NY, Lydia Torres and Geneva Morris, and many dear nieces and nephews.
