Baseball’s Hall of Fame at Cooperstown, New York was rocking on Sunday, July 24 because Big Papi was in town to receive his induction into the Hall of Fame.

Born November 18, 1975, David Americo Ortiz Arias, nicknamed “Big Papi” was a Dominican-American, former designated hitter (DH) and first baseman who played in the American League (AL) from 1997 to 2016, primarily with the Boston Red Sox.

Big Papi on July 24 at Cooperstown delivered a rousing speech in front of a huge crowd, and he proved to be the highlight of baseball’s Hall of Fame inductions.

Ortiz, following retirement from the Red Sox in 2016, made the Hall on his first ballot and fans went wild shouting “Papi...Papi...Papi” at the July 24 ceremony.

Ortiz is the first designated hitter inducted on his first ballot and the fourth Dominican born player to join the hall.

Papi retired from Major League Baseball as the greatest hitter of a Red Sox era that saw the franchise secure its first World Series championship since 1918, winning the 2004 World Series.
