PBA modifies amateur rule

Posted

Effective immediately, the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) has modified the amateur cash rule to allow active collegiate players the ability to compete and cash in PBA events.

The rule change meets the requirements set forth by United State Bowling Congress Collegiate Bowling.

The modifications to rule 13.2.4 Amateur Cash Rule will allow the non-member maximum two cash rule to be waived for current collegiate bowlers who are able to provide proof of status as a current member of a USBC Collegiate bowling team. Approved collegiate players may cash and compete as often as they’d like.

PBA Tour Commissioner Tom Clark noted, “The talent on the collegiate level is at an all-time high and while current collegiate rules prohibit active players from joining the PBA, this new rule offers more opportunities for them to compete at the highest level of the game.”

PBA fans, players and tournament hosts will benefit, and it will help collegiate players make a smoother transition to PBA membership once their college careers are over,” the Tour Commissioner said.

Collegiate players may compete in PBA-member-only events if entries are available after PBA member registration. Players must still pay non-member entry fees    for all events and will not earn Official titles, Champions banners, competition points or seasonal awards while competing as a non-PBA member.

It is the collegiate players’ responsibility to determine whether or not participation in a PBA event as a non-member violates his college or athletic association rules, or if participation will affect his or her amateur status.

Bowling Tip by Mike Luongo

Upper body position is the topic of this week’s tip.

Many bowlers worry too much about their steps and footwork, giving very little thought to their body position.

In the past, most new bowlers were told that you must use a four-step approach and this advice is wrong.

Bowlers come in a variety of different body types, different flexibility and different lengths to their legs and arms.

In looking at the legends of the game we find that no two bowlers have the same style.

The most important thing is to get the bowler’s body in the correct position and here are the steps to follow.

1. Get your head over the ball.

2. The bowling shoulder should be tilted to the ball side.

3. Using this method the feet will go where they must so that you do not fall.

Getting the body in the correct position will improve your game and will help the bowler feel much more comfortable.
