Pearl Harbor will be remembered December 7

HONESDALE, PA — A Pearl Harbor remembrance ceremony will be held on Wednesday, December 7 beginning at 9 a.m. at the Wayne Memorial Hospital Exterior Main Entrance in Honesdale, Pa. Hospital staff will join local veterans as they recall one of the darkest days in U.S. History, the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on December 7, 1941. 

The ceremony will include readings about the attack, homage to those who served and those who lost their lives in the battle for freedom, a Pearl Harbor Memorial prayer and the playing of taps. A wreath will be placed at the original dedication plaque. 

Wayne Memorial has been holding a Pearl Harbor Remembrance Ceremony almost every year since 2010.

Participants include the Wayne Memorial Admin. and Veterans of U.S. Armed Forces; Hugh Rechner, Chair WMH/WMHS Board of Trustees, ret. U.S. Army; Dale Pepper, VFW Post 531; James Bruck, American Legion Post 254; and Doug Wyllie, bugler.

Wayne Memorial Hospital was dedicated in 1920 to 55 Wayne County soldiers who served in World War I, many of whom made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. The hospital was re-dedicated in 1995 to all in the U.S. Armed Forces from both Wayne and Pike Counties. In 2020, on the occasion of its centennial, Wayne Memorial was once again dedicated, but this time to all soldiers who committed to serve and defend the United States of America. 

The Wayne Memorial Health Foundation initiated the Pearl Harbor ceremony as a way of continuing to honor veterans and recognize their valor and commitment.
