Pike proclamation for Health Centers Week

Posted

HONESDALE, PA - Staff from Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers’ administration team and its Pike County centers were welcomed today in Milford by the Pike County Commissioners, who proclaimed next week, August 7 – 13, “National Health Center Week” in the county.

The commissioners’ proclamation encouraged Pike County residents to visit their local health centers and celebrate the important partnership between Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers (WMCHC) and the communities they serve. In Pike, WMCHC operates the Pike Family Health Center, Pike Pediatrics, the Pike Dental Center and the Tick-borne Disease and Wellness Center, all in Lords Valley, and the Pike County Women’s Health Center in Dingmans Ferry. WMCHC operates close to 20 sites in four counties. Other services include Behavioral Health Center, surgical and neurology services.

Community Health Centers were launched in 1965 to help increase access to primary care for vulnerable populations by reducing barriers such as cost, lack of insurance, distance, and language. They receive funding from the Health Resources and Services Administration to help them fulfill their mission. Today, there are 1,400 health centers in the U.S. providing care to more than 28 million people.
