TRI-VALLEY–– Senior phenom Van Furman has officially committed to Georgetown University. Furman is Tri-Valley’s most decorated male runner. After finishing an extremely successful cross-country season his indoor track season is under way. Van currently holds a New York State Cross Country Federation title and two State Cross Country Championships for the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
Furman is a state outdoor 3200m champion and holds the #1 time in the USA for the 3000m steeplechase this past outdoor season. He owns a meet record at the prestigious Loucks meet, the OCIAA Cross Country record in Warwick with a time of 14:59, the school records for the 3200m indoors and outdoors, the 5000m outdoors, and the 3000m steeplechase.
Van is also the only athlete from Tri-Valley to ever punch a ticket to the Nike Cross National Championships in Portland, Oregon finishing 4th in the largest, most competitive Federations race ever and was named to the NXR 1st Team running a spectacular time of 16:04.
The month of November saw Furman run several highly competitive back-to- back races including the Foot Locker Regional meet in Boston to finish off the month where he finished in the top 10 in six place with a time of 15:29. Earlier this month Furman was the first male from New York and fifth from the Northeast to cross the finish line at the Nike Cross Nationals in Portland, Oregon. As one of eight runners in the US to qualify and compete in both national competitions Van is in the company of very few athletes of his calibre.
We look foward to watching Van finish out his senior year at Tri-Valley and to following his future college career at Georgetown.
