Professional Dance Arrives at Harmony In The Woods

Posted

The Manhattan contemporary ballet company, Neville Dance Theatre, will present a full program of dance at Harmony In The Woods on Saturday, August 13 at 6:00 pm.

This is the first time a dance company will grace the Harmony stage, and organizers couldn’t be more excited. “We’ve always had the goal to bring dance to The Woods, and Neville Dance Theatre’s roster of innovative, contemporary works aligns with Harmony’s mission and vision, giving a platform for artistic discoveries and offering excellent cultural arts programming,” says Creative Director Jill Carletti. “Besides, what a wonderful opportunity for local audiences to experience a professional dance concert close to home.”

Hailed as “compelling,” “imaginative,” and “pure delight” by both critics and reviewers, Neville Dance Theatre excels in bringing diverse dance elements together to create theatrical, innovative works. Founded in 2005 by Brenda R. Neville as a means of opening cross-cultural dialogues between differing dance genres and nationalities, Neville Dance Theatre fosters an artistic exchange of styles, outlooks, and attitudes, instilling an appreciation for the beauty, value, and significance of dance as a living art form for today and generations to come.

Other concerts in Harmony’s August lineup include the “South Side Five” on August 12, returning after their stunning evening of entertainment at Harmony’s 1920’s Dance Party in February. Expect to hear western swing-jazz in the style of Benny Goodman from the South Side Five, which cites Stephane Wrembel, Django Reinhardt and Hendrix as influences.

The following weekend brings the Americana group “Driftwood'' on August 19 and the classic country of “Crawford and Power” on August 20. All concerts are at 6:00 pm.
