FALLSBURG –– In a thrilling and exciting mid-week, non-league matchup the Liberty RedHawks defeated the Fallsburg Comets 4-3. Prior to the game both teams seemed very business-like and focused both ways during warmups for their match. This would mark the second matchup between the two teams this season. The first one ended in a 1-1 draw.

The beginning of the first half saw hard and physical play to start the game. Both teams were attempting to set the tone and push the pace. Fallsburg drew the first score of the contest off a defensive miscue by the RedHawks. Senior Comet Forward Cristan Garica was able to find the back of the net to get the scoring started for the day. Shortly after the RedHawks were able to level the score off a strike on great run by Fransico Gonzalez. The middle of the first half would see a flurry of action with fast paced play.

The RedHawks goalie would end up leaving due to an injury. The backup Liberty goalkeeper came in to play a key role in match. The RedHawks would add 2 more goals before the end of the first half to bring the score to 3-1 Liberty.

During the halftime intermission the Comets coaching staff implored their athletes to keep playing hard as a team with a fiery talk. The Redhawk coaching staff was pleased with effort and lead, but they expressed for their team to keep up their game plan, and to not let up. The start of play in the second half saw the Comets come out super aggressive looking to score. The RedHawks countered, with the two-goal lead, were more conservative looking to play the clock and drop back into a defensive alignment. The majority of the second half the score would remain 3-1 until a late flurry of goals by both sides to provide late match drama and excitement. Liberty would push their lead to 4-1 with under 10 minutes to play, followed by 2 Fallsburg goals in under 5 minutes. This brought the score to 4-3 Liberty.

Fallsburg would have one final opportunity to level the score before time would expire on the match. The Redhawk defense would make one final stand to give the RedHawks a hard-fought, and well-deserved road win. The Comets certainly had their opportunities and played a solid match with numerous shots on goal.
