FALLSBURG –– The Redhawks came out victorious in their division matchup against the Comets in a high energy physical contest. The Redhawks were lead by their stand out guard play on the offensive end and their great defense on the opposite end of the court.
Fallsburg started out on a five-zero run behind a lay-up and three-point field goal off the jump ball by guard Donovan Hart.
These back-to-back efforts had the crowd on their feet and the momentum in full swing for the home team. Fallsburg ran a full court press and held Liberty scoreless until late in the first quarter when the Redhawks finally got on the board after a tough downhill attack by Liberty guard James Dworetsky. A midrange shot followed to bring the Redhawks within one.
Both teams increased their defensive intensity in the second quarter, resulting in a scoreless period for much of the quarter. Eventually, both squads managed to break the scoring drought by hitting three-point goals: the second of the contest for Fallsburg’s Nick Storm and the First for Liberty’s Adrien Ferguson who netted two three-point field goals in the half on his way to a game high 14 points.
With time winding down Zack Alvord of Liberty hits a three-pointer that ignited the Redhawk crowd. The Redhawks held a slight lead of 20-17 heading into the half.
Fallsburg’s Nick Storm nets yet another three-point field goal to tie the game at twenty a piece. Multiple turnovers from both teams would keep the game close at 27-25 Liberty to head into the last quarter.
With the final eight minutes on the clock and both teams eyeing a division win it was all Redhawks turning up the heat and leading several runs to seal the deal. The Redhawks would bring home a 48-32 victory over the Comets on the road.
The Redhawks were lead in points by Adrien Ferguson with 14, Joseph DiBartolo with 11 and James Dworetsky with 10. The Comets’ Donovan had 13 and Nick Storm added 9 points. Fallsburg drops to 1-5 on the season and Liberty advances their record to 1-4 with this win over the Comets.
