Reduce use in Youngsville Water District

YOUNGSVILLE – A water advisory has been issued in the Youngsville Water District in the Town of Callicoon until further notice.

The advisory warns against unnecessary use of water, which includes no watering plants, filling pools or washing cars.

The Youngsville Water District water tank, which will be replaced with a new one in 2025, hasn’t been at a critical level this week, but it is low for this time of year, according to town officials.

“We’ve definitely doubled our normal capacity for the day,” said Water District Plant Operator Joseph Kavleski on Monday. “We’re not gaining as far as filling up our clear well. So we’re issuing [the advisory] now so that hopefully we will find the leak [if there is one].”

Kavleski mentioned how the hot and humid weather this week had an effect on why they put the advisory out now.

Callicoon Supervisor Tom Bose said noted that it is not an emergency but he asks for cooperation from those that live in the Youngsville Water District.

“If there is a break, it’s not visible,” Bose said. “But we’re looking. Not an emergency but an advisory – extreme conservation.”

As of presstime, the water advisory is still in effect until further notice.
