Richard (Dick) Ehrmann “The Major” passed away on Friday, September 13, 2024 at the Oxford Veteran’s Home, Oxford, NY. He was 88.
The son of the late Albert J. Ehrmann and Emily (Truesdell) Ehrmann, he was born April 20, 1936 in Orange, NJ.
During his high school years, he played football, was president of his FFA Chapter and performed in the senior play. Dick attended Rutgers College of Agriculture and earned a certificate in dairy husbandry. He was retired from the Army National Guard with the rank of Major. He was a combat veteran of the Vietnam War where he was awarded a Bronze Star medal. During his military career he graduated from the US Army Command and General Staff College, was a member of the committee that wrote the design requirements for the Abrams M1 Main Battletank and served as an instructor for cadet summer field training at West Point.
Dick was a retired Conservation Technician with the Sullivan County Soil and Water Conservation District. During that time, he put together the booklet on “Deer Habitat Improvement in Sullivan County” as well as assisting farmers and land owners with establishing conservation practices on their land. In addition to the fore mentioned he was the coordinator of the “Lexington Concord Project” which was a nationwide poll of Firearms owners with a resulting report to congress.
He served for many years on the Town of Fremont Planning Board. Dick was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, The American Legion and the National Rifle Association, he was also a life member of the National Guard Association of the US.
Survivors include his daughters, DebbyLinn Fee and her companion John of Hackettstown, NJ; ElizabethLinn Creeden of Tunkhannock, PA; TrudyLinn Teel of Barnveld, NY; and AmyLinn Nemeth and her husband Paul of Mt. Bethel, PA; ten grandchildren, Jason Fee, Mike Fee (April), SamanthaLinn Doxstader (Jason), Jeremy Teel (Carly), JennaLinn VanHusen (Joe), TamiLinn Doxstader (Josh), Justin Teel (Maria), Brice Gibbs, AmandaLinn Paulsinelli (Mike), and Steven Strowbridge (Cheyenne); and 23 great-grandchildren; and his cousin, Nancy Rusewlier and her family. He was extremely proud of all his daughters and his grandchildren and their accomplishments.
He was predeceased by his wife, MaryAnn Wilcox Ehrmann; sons-in-law, Michael Creeden and Gary Teel.
Graveside services and burial with military honors will be Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 1 PM in the Sullivan County Veteran’s Cemetery, Liberty, NY. Pastor Joseph LeConey will officiate.
