TSgt Richard Niel “Mac” McKenzie, USAF ret., 85, widower of Yasuko McKenzie, died May 19, 2025, at his home.

Born October 10, 1939, in Ellenville, New York, he was a son of the late George McKenzie and the late Ruby Ernestine Scott McKenzie. He was a graduate of Ellenville Junior/Senior High School and attended Sumter Area Technical College in Sumter. Mr. McKenzie served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps and retired from the U.S. Air Force after more than twenty years of military service. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Following his military career, he worked with Federal Mogul Corp. and later retired from Carolina Power and Light Company.

Survivors include eight siblings, George W. McKenzie (Sharon) of Ohio, Elizabeth Reiners (Robert) of Connecticut, Jim McKenzie (Winnie) of New York, Judy Van Inwegen of Florida, Tom McKenzie (Joanne) of Missouri, Nancy Grund and Joan Gregory both of New York, and Nina Sullivan (Rocco Conklin) of Pennsylvania; three special “daughters”, Debbie Elmore (Rick) and Colleen Motley (Rhett) both of Sumter, and Missy Sawyer (Rick) of Dalzell; two special “granddaughters”, Catie Pipkin (Caleb) and Claire Holland; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends from around the world.

A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2025, in the Ft. Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, SC.
