Rita Joan De Simone passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Friday, February 4, 2022 at home in Kiamesha Lake. She was 90. 

The daughter of the late Arthur and Nellie (Laufersweiler) Jennings. She was born May 13, 1931 in Monticello. Rita was predeceased by her beloved husband Joseph De Simone Sr., brothers Leon Jennings, Frank Jennings, Arthur Jennings, and sister Bernice Jennings Miller. 

Rita is survived by her daughter Sherrie De Simone, son Joseph De Simone, brother Walter Jennings and wife Denise, and granddaughter Angela Brodie. She will also be greatly missed by grandson AJ Rodriguez and two great-grandsons Anthony and Cameron Rodriguez as well as many nieces and nephews.

Rita was a gentle soul who loved her family. She was a homemaker who loved making Sunday spaghetti dinners and was often the confidant for her family. She was an avid reader, loved birds, music and never gave up an opportunity to go for rides or shopping to the mall. She will be greatly missed.

Many special thanks to the Hospice West Team of Sullivan & Orange County, with utmost gratitude to Brandy and Jessica who took great care of Rita and her family during this difficult time. 

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 11 from 12:30 to 2:30pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. Her funeral service will be held at 2:30pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Monticello.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in Rita’s name to Hospice of Sullivan and Orange County.
