Rita Weinstein, age 93, passed away from cardiopulmonary arrest on December 14, 2021, at Garnet Health Medical Center, Harris, NY after being admitted to the hospital on December 13, 2021. Rita was a longtime resident of Liberty, having moved to the area upon her marriage to the late Herbert Weinstein. She is survived by her daughters Lois and Mindy as well as 4 generations of nieces and nephews.

Rita was well-loved by all those who knew her for her generosity, good nature, creativity, and humor. In her early career she was a bookkeeper and later became a Foster Grandparent at the Liberty Elementary School for 39 years, retiring at the age of 90. She had been an active member of several organizations which included the Pythian Sisters Catskill Mt. Temple #238 holding titles of Most Excellent Chief and District Deputy several times, Congregation Ahavath Israel Sisterhood, Congregation Ahavath Israel Senior Club where she served as President for many years, and the Girl Scouts where she had been a local troop leader. She belonged to both Congregation Ahavath Israel of Liberty and Congregation Teferes Israel Anshe of Parksville.

During her lifetime she enjoyed playing Mah Jongg, watching TV, reading, doing needlework, drawing, painting, and attending services and classes offered by Temple Sholom of Monticello. She adored being around children and socializing with family and friends. She was devoted to her family and was greatly loved by all. She will be forever in their hearts.

Rabbi Michele Medwin officiated services on December 15, 2021 at the Parksvile Synagogue Cemetery.
