Robert Alan Meyer passed away at home on October 8, 2025, after a long battle with cancer surrounded by his loving family.
Robert (Bob) was born on February 6, 1953, to Joseph G. Meyer and Maria B. Meyer (Niessen) in Callicoon, NY. After graduating from Narrowsburg Central School in 1971, he went on to study Civil Engineering at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn.
After graduation, Bob landed his first job as a Cost Engineer for Slattery Associates. Throughout his extensive career Bob owned his own engineering firm on two separate occasions. Bob served several terms as the Sullivan County Commissioner of Public Works, as well as the Orange County, NY Commissioner of Environmental Facilities and Services. Bob was a dedicated public servant; on call 24/7 for much of his municipal career. He retired from Sullivan County in 2012.
In 1976, Bob met Rosemary (Rose) A. Kenny, the love of his life. They wed on October 21, 1978, going on to have 5 beloved children. Whenever a stranger would ask Bob if he had any children, he’d smile and say, ”Yes, we only have five; you see, Rose is the oldest of eight and I’m the oldest of two, so we took the average and had five children.” In their nearly 47 years of marriage, Bob consistently stated that the sight of Rose would make his heart skip a beat.
Bob was a parishioner at St. Francis Xavier Parish in Narrowsburg where he served roles as a lector, Eucharistic minister, religious education teacher, and president of the parish council. His faith and dedication to service was seen by all who knew Bob. Most recently he had been officially received as a member of the Saint Thomas Aquinas, Chapter 413 of the Third Order of Saint Dominic (Lay Dominicans) in Honesdale, PA.
Bob felt he’d lived a complete and fulfilling life. He lived his life with a wonderful sense of humor and an attitude of gratitude for the many blessings he’d received. Among these many blessings, Bob counted having wonderful parents who were strict but reasonable and loving: teaching him the values of hard work, integrity, and responsibility. He also thanked God for his wife and partner, Rose, as well as his five children – each of whom he considered a special gift from God. Bob’s memory will live on through his many friends and family.
Anyone who knew Bob knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for. Bob was predeceased by his parents; and his cousin, Thomas Meyer. He is survived by his children, Veronica Meyer, Elizabeth (Trevor Burt) Meyer, Christopher Meyer, Mary Meyer, and James Meyer; his brother Ronald (Anna) Meyer and their son Peter Meyer; and many nieces and nephews.
