Rock Hill Holidays are rockin’

THOMPSON— The Rock Hill Tree lighting ceremony was once again live on Sunday, December 5 and in-person after being virtual last year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Melinda Meddaugh from the Rock Hill Business & Community Association, which sponsors the tree lighting every year, was the M.C. She said she was happy that everyone could gather again to watch the tree light up and kick off the holiday season in Rock Hill.

Pastor Walter Curtis Haff of the Rock Hill United Methodist Church gave the opening blessing and reminded everyone who was in attendance the importance of the holiday and why everyone was there.

After a short countdown, the tree illuminated up on the corner of Rock Hill Drive near Dutch’s Tavern across the street from Pizza The Rock.

Musicians Fisher & Kean filled the air with the sound of their renditions of classic holiday music.
Soon after, horns and sirens could be heard from afar, and being escorted by the Rock Hill Fire Department all the way from the North Pole was the star of the night, Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus.

Santa stepped off the fire truck and burst out a jolly laugh as he was greeted with cheers from parents and kids. The cheerful couple handed holiday treats to everyone and made sure to stop and take some selfies.
