Ronald E. Gorr, son of Edward & Florence Hust Gorr, born in Callicoon NY on March 8, 1935 passed away at home on December 24th with his family by his side.

Ron was married to Anne R. Gorr, to whom he was married to for 63 years. She predeceased him on 11/2/2020.

Ron was President & cofounder of R & H Gorr, Inc. of Hortonville, NY since 1961.

He was a former President and member of the Hortonville Fire Department and The Callicoon Kiwanis Club. He served as a Commissioner of the Hortonville Fire District for many years and was a former member of the Tamarack Hunting Club. Ron was also a Director of the former Callicoon Water Company.

Ron is survived by his son, Michael and his wife, Karin and their children, Ronni and Grant, daughter Janet and her husband Dale Houghtaling and their son Todd and his wife Alicia Houghtaling and their children Kylie and Tanner, daughter Judy and her husband Bruce Lott, daughter Jill and her companion Shawn Canfield and her daughter Amanda and her husband Jeramie Kivler, and their son Jordan and stepdaughter Payton. Ron is also survived by his sister-in-law Ann F. Alsop and family. Ron leaves behind his beloved cat, Abby. He is predeceased by his grandson Nickolas and brother Herbert Gorr.

Ron was a hardworking and dedicated man who thought nothing of working 7 days a week. He never quit or gave up on anything, including his recent health issues. He spoke his mind and voiced his opinion on everything but would give the shirt off his back to help anyone who may have been in need. He loved his community and could always be seen circling town in the early morning hours. After work he enjoyed having a beer (or a shot of blackberry brandy – it cures anything that ails you) at the local pub while socializing with his many friends. He was a proud father and grandfather who loved his family and was loved by them. We will miss his wit, many stories, insights and advice.

The family thanks Dr. James Vincens, Dr. David Schwalb, Dr. Jeffrey Stewart, Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties and the “team” from Sullivan Co. Public Health for all their excellent care.

A special thanks goes to his caregiver, Kayla, whose compassion and assistance was greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten.

Donations in memory of Ron may be made to your charity of choice.

Graveside services were held January 3rd at the Hortonville Cemetery.

A celebration of Ron’s life will be held January 7th at the Hortonville Fire House from 1:00 to 4:00pm.
