Roscoe fundraiser helps firefighter and his family

ROSCOE – The Roscoe community turned out in full force Friday night to help one of their own.

Anthony Morgano, who is a volunteer fireman and community volunteer, lost his mom, Korri McDoal, on January 5 after a battle with cancer. The loss was a big one for Anthony and his five siblings.

His siblings were still attending Roscoe Central School and Anthony stepped in, just like he always had done, to help raise his siblings, who range in age from six to 17.

And just like Anthony was there for his family, his “brothers and sisters” in the Roscoe-Rockland Fire Dept. and Ladies Auxiliary, hosted a fundraiser in his honor last Friday at The Rockland House in Roscoe “to be there for him.”

“We had 182 people all together,” Emily Niforatos, president of the Ladies Auxiliary, said. “We had 74 sponsors for the night and raised nearly $29,000.”

Niforatos said she and her husband, Niko, have known Anthony for quite a while through the fire department and community.

“It was the right thing to do,” she said about organizing and running the big fundraiser.

“I would like to thank the fire department and ladies auxiliary for all they did in helping put this on,” Emily said. “I also want to thank the community for showing up and for all the donations.”
