Roslyn C. Sharoff passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on January 5, 2023.

Roslyn was born in New York City in 1928 to Beadie and Sam Rosenblatt. Her family moved to Monticello when she was one-year-old and she remained a life-long resident. After graduating Monticello High School in 1946, Roz worked at New York Telephone Company as an operator until she married in 1951.

Roz had two children, Louis in 1952 and Stacey (born on her birthday) in 1954. Roz returned to work in 1965 for Hammond and Cooke as the manager of the women’s department where she stayed for ten years. She continued to work for Hammond and Cooke at their Men’s Shop at Kutsher’s Hotel for another ten years. In 1987 Roz began to work in the main Dining Room of the Concord Hotel as assistant to famed Maître D Irving Cohen. She enjoyed her position until she retired, making long-lasting friendships with people from all over the world.

Upon retirement, Roz focused on her passion, political activism, as a community volunteer working tirelessly as an Advocate for Senior Citizens. Her activities included eight years as President of the Monticello Seniors, Vice Chairperson of SLAC (Senior Legislative Action Committee), member of the Advisory Board for the Office of the Aging, and member of TRIAD.

Roz was very proud of the awards presented to her over the years including Citations and Certificates of Recognition or Merit from the New York State Assembly, Congressman Hinchey, Senator Bonacic, then-Senator Hillary Clinton, Supervisor Tony Cellini, Sullivan County Legislators, Federation for the Homeless, and Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce among others.

Family meant everything to Roz. Her four grandchildren were the light in her life. Everyone who knew Roz was impressed by her warmth, wit, and wisdom.

Roslyn is survived by her daughter Stacey Sharoff (Jerry Burton), her daughter-in-law Mary Sharoff, her grandchildren Carrie Maclean, Rachel Sharoff, Olivia Burton, Nicholas Burton, beloved great-grandchildren Brady and Brody, Finn and Poppy, and a host of adoring nieces and nephews.

Roslyn was predeceased by her parents, siblings Albert Rosenblatt and Hilda Rosen, beloved husband Harry Sharoff, and her son Louis. Roz was the last of her generation in our family.

A funeral service will take place on Sunday, January 8, 2023, at 11 am at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home, 388 Broadway, Monticello, NY 12701. Burial will immediately follow at the Workman Circle # 610 Cemetery, Old Thompson Road, Monticello, NY.
