Rudy W. Houghtaling, Sr. of Liberty, a retired carpenter and a longtime area resident, died Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
The son of the late Alfred and Mildred Paddock Houghtaling, Sr., he was born October 27, 1934 in Rudtown, NJ.
Rudy had been a member of the Clarence Hoyt VFW Post 9217 Liberty, NY and the Paralyzed Vets of America. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and refinishing furniture.
Survivors include his devoted wife, Marilyn Hoffman Houghtaling at home; two sons, Rudy Houghtaling Jr. and his wife Anita of Liberty, NY and Michael Epstein and his wife Natalie of Liberty, NY; four daughters, Joan Davis of Youngsville, NY, Betty Ann Santoro of Liberty, NY, Stefanie Kellam and her husband Mark of Liberty, NY and Shari Vega of Colorado; 12 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Wilson Rudy Houghtaling and a son-in-law, Terry A. Davis, Sr.
Visitation was held Saturday, June 4, 2022 from 11 a.m – 1 p.m in the Harris Funeral Home, West Street at Buckley, Liberty, NY.
Graveside services and burial were Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 1:30 PM in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, Cox Road, White Sulphur Springs, NY. The Rev. Paul Nilsen officiated.
