SULLIVAN COUNTY – As the winter season is nearing its conclusion, skiiers and wrestlers from around the county are already participating in post-season events. While Indoor Track, Wrestling and Skiing are all reaching their conclusion, basketball is still in the regular season for a few more days.

In the D1 Section 9 tournament, Monticello faced off against a few competitors.
Fallsburg/Tri-Valley, Sullivan West and Liberty squared off on Sunday in the Section 9 D2 tournament.

Skiing
The County’s Alpine Skiiers took over Hunter Mountain on Tuesday to compete for Sectional glory. The Monticello Boys were the top team, with Jack Rein leading the charge.
1. Jack Rein (M), 3. Austin Hartman (TV), 4. Ryan Weiner (M), 5. Connor Foss (M) and 7. Samuel Rein (M) will be representing Sullivan County and Section 9 in the state championship.
The girls were led by Monticello’s Alexis Heins. The Lady Panthers took first place as well, and both Monticello teams will be representing Section 9 and Sullivan County at the state championships on February 28 and March 1.

Girls Basketball
Fallsburg was defeated by O’Neill in a league matchup on Monday night, 47-10. Ashley Grande scored five of Fallsburg’s points in the loss.
The Lady Wildcats hosted the Lady Lions on Wednesday night in a thrilling division matchup. At the end of regulation, the two teams were knotted at 38. An OT surge by the Lady Wildcats, Led by Kristina Davis with six points, defeated the Lions 52-39. Davis led all Livingston Manor scorers with 20 points, while Arianna Lopez matched her for Chapel Field. The two teams will play again on Tuesday.
Boys Basketball
Tri-Valley hosted Sullivan West on Tuesday for their senior recognition night. The Bulldogs defeated the Bears 47-35 and punched their ticket to Sectionals. Chris Campanelli led Sullivan West and Andrew Cox led Tri-Valley, each scoring 21 points.
Liberty visited Tri-Valley on Wednesday night, and the Indians and Bears needed a 5th quarter to decide a winner. Tied at 46 at the end of regulation, Liberty outscored Tri-Valley 9-5 in the final frame to win 55-51. Nasir Gibbs led the Indians with 20 points, while Andrew Cox had 16 for the Bears.
