Senator Oberacker welcomes Liberty high school musicians

ALBANY — State Senator Peter Oberacker (R/C – Schenevus) today proudly welcomed the Liberty High School Jazz Ensemble to Albany as part of the annual “Music in Our Schools Month” in New York State.

“Performances like the ones coordinated by the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) are a terrific showcase for the talent that exists in schools throughout the state,” said Senator Seward.  “It was great to meet with the students from Liberty and hear the results of their hard work.”

Choirs, orchestras and bands from across the state travel to Albany throughout the month of March to perform in the concourse of the Empire State Plaza as part of “Music in Our Schools Month”.

“Music education plays an important role in developing a well-rounded student.  Problem solving, creativity and critical thinking are just a few of the skills enhanced through music.  As we work to finalize a state budget it is important that funding to support our schools is included to ensure that the arts and other key programs will continue,” Oberacker concluded.
