Seward defeats Livingston Manor in afternoon matchup

ROSCOE – Following the Monticello and Sullivan West game, Seward and Livingston Manor faced off in the second of three games in honor of Coach Fred Ahart on Saturday.

The game started sloppy for both teams, but after about four minutes of the first quarter had passed, the Spartans found their stride. By the end of the first quarter, Seward jumped out to a 15-1 lead over Livingston Manor.

The Wildcats found more offense in the second quarter, but the Spartans outscored them 15-9 for a 30-10 lead at halftime. Kyle Hendrickson scored all nine of Manor’s second quarter points from the 3-point line.

In the second half, Seward continued to build their lead, outscoring their opponents 25-13 in the second half. Daniel Tolbert scored ten of his team high 11 points in the second half, but it was not enough to keep Livingston Manor in the game.

Seward was led by Nick Perez with 14 points, but there were nine different Spartans that scored in the contest.

“Fred was a great man, and I’m happy that we were invited to play on his day. It’s a great day for the Foundation, and I would love for them to have us back next year,” Seward Coach Bill Steele said after the win. “We were able to get everyone into the game and they all had nearly equal minutes today.”
