Shirley Mednick Kantrowitz passed away peacefully on May 5, 2025. She was born in Brooklyn, New York on February 9, 1924, to Louis Mednick and Celia Zabrowski Mednick, the seventh of ten children. She grew up in Woodridge, New York and graduated from Woodridge High School in 1942. She was married to Seymour Sholom Kantrowitz, from 1942 until his death in 2005. They resided in Woodridge until 2003 when they moved to Phoenix, Arizona.

She leaves two daughters, who loved her deeply and greatly admired her strength and conviction: Barbara Kantrowitz Antillon (Armando) of Mexico City, Mexico and Cynthia Kantrowitz Dallas of Peoria, Arizona; six loving grandchildren, who will dearly miss their Nana: Lisa Antillon, Nina Antillon (Roberto), Joshua Robert Friedberg (Rebecca), Diana Antillon (Jose), Ian Scott Kantrowitz (Shannon), Matthew Taylor Dallas; nine great-grandchildren: Jenna Marie Friedberg, Ilan Toussieh, Sam Friedberg, Dana Toussieh, Andres Toussieh, Sophia Galicia, Emilio Galicia, Martin Covarrubias, Jaime Covarrubias; a sister-in-law: Gloria Kantrowitz (Isaac), also left are many nieces and nephews, each with their own memories of time spent with their Aunt Shirley.

She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Seymour Sholom Kantrowitz; seven brothers: Paul Schwartz, Harry Mednick, Phillip Mednick, Al Mednick, Sol Mednick, Meyer Mednick and Hy Mednick; and two sisters: Dorothy Wilson and Toby Schneider. She was also predeceased by her many dear brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law who were also special to her.

A service will be held on Friday, May 9th at 1pm at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne, NY 12788. Burial will follow at Congregation Ohave Sholom Cemetery, Marsh Road, Glen Wild, NY. All who wish to honor Shirley’s memory are invited to attend the burial.
