Right after the Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs of Sullivan County's budget committee meeting, its members made a surprise visit to my home to present a couple gifts to me.

They presented a plaque to me that read, “Presented to Jack Danchak, with grateful appreciation for your dedication and commitment as president of our organization for 30 years. We sincerely thank you for your service.”

I was also presented with a gorgeous wooden carved and hand-painted American Flag with a largemouth bass painted on it, representing the love I have for bass fishing.

I thanked the Federation and I will cherish these gifts.

January Monthly Meeting!

The Sportsmen's Federation held their January monthly meeting at the Conservation Club's Clubhouse. Eighteen delegates were present. Guests attending were DEC retired Conservation Officers Carl and Deming Lindsley.

Deming reported that DEC Conservation Officers were very disappointed that they weren't allowed any overtime which resulted with no officers on duty over the weekend to check on hunters.

Carl reported that there is no bear biologist currently in New Paltz. The existing staff is doubling up on the work load and any open positions are not going to be filled as of now. There is no field work being done. Money for any projects isn't available without the Governor's approval.

President John VanEtten read a letter from Jeremy Hurst, the DEC Big Game Unit leader, regarding the DEC's 10-year deer management plan.

Habitat Chairman Fred Bosch said habitat applications are now available and if anyone can help with the inspection of projects to please let him know.

It was announced that Youth Day is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 11, 2021 providing that the Grahamsville Fairgrounds are open.

Carl Lindsley stated that the Youth Ice Fishing Derby will be held on Saturday January 30 but safe ice conditions will be a major concern.

President VanEtten discussed the proposed 2021 Federation budget that was accepted by attending delegates.

It was stated the 2022 coyote contest is still uncertain, only time will tell.

President VanEtten asked Ray Otto to chair a new bow hunting program committee and Carl Lindsley and Bill Gates to co-chair a trapping program.

Next Federation meeting will be held on February 10, 2021 at the Conservation Club.

Jack Danchak is a longtime sportsmen and spent 30 years as the President of the Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs of Sullivan County, Inc.
