Stanley “Dick” Tremper

Stanley “Dick” Tremper, age 92, of Surfside Beach, SC, formerly of Rock Hill, NY, passed away peacefully in the arms of his family on September 30, 2021.

He lived his childhood years in Hurleyville, NY. Born to Edward and Margaret Sprague Tremper, he lived in Hurleyville until he joined the US Navy in 1947. He then joined the US Air Force in 1952 until 1961. During this time he married Mary Carlson. They were married 5 short years until her passing from a heart ailment. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, he married Marie Carlson in 1961.They lived in Rock Hill NY for the next 30+ years. They had 3 children, Kathy, Margaret and Ed. They moved to Surfside Beach, SC to live out their retirement years. They were married for 55 years until Marie’s passing in 2017.

Stanley was a 50 year Mason, a member of the American Legion in SC. He retired from the NYSDOT. He was a member of the Hurleyville Fire Department before he joined the service and a 60 year member and Past Chief of the Rock Hill Fire Department. He was also the oldest living member of the RHFD.

Stanley is survived by his children, Kathy and Russ VanLoan of Conway, SC, Margaret and James Connor of Garden City, SC and Ed and Josephine Tremper of Smallwood, NY. He also leaves behind his 9 grandchildren; Dean, Jessica, Shaun, Thomas, Brandi, Joey, Kevin, Brittani, and Sarina and 10 great-grandchildren; Christian, Mia, Maisyn, Hailey, Logan, Nathan, Ayanna, Jason, Austin and Gracie and 2 nieces; Toni and Teri. Memorial donations can be made in Stanley’s name to the Rock Hill Fire Department or the Rock Hill Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

There will be a memorial service on October 9, 2021 at 11 a.m. at the Goldfinch Funeral Home in Murrells Inlet, SC with military honors. Firematic services and internment will be at the Hurleyville Cemetery in NY at a later date.
