Swan Lake
To the editor:
I write in response to a recent letter of one of your readers to the editor expressing concerns about a development in Swan Lake. As a Swan Lake home owner, I believe it’s essential to strike a balance between preserving our area’s beauty and ensuring fiscal responsibility.
While maintaining the status quo may seem appealing, it’s important to recognize the potential financial implications for taxpayers. We’ve experienced the consequences before when a promising project was thwarted, leading to increased burdens on taxpayers.
The key lies in a judicious decision-making process for any proposed development. It should focus on minimizing visibility from both the road and the lake, while also considering the economic benefits for the town.
The current project, covering over 200 acres with more than half remaining untouched and designed to be discreet, appears to align with these principles.
The entire town should not have to pay the bill of higher taxes. It is also my belief that the town board shouldn’t terminate the years-long established PUD laws, as the PUD laws give the town discretion, on project-by-project base to approve or disapprove PUD developments, only if it will benefit the town and its taxpayers.
