Ancient instruments are cool. But do you know what the most ancient instrument is? It’s the voice! You are invited to join the Sullivan County Chamber Orchestra (SCCO) on Mother’s Day weekend for a string quintet concert of music by operatic composers including Bizet and Mozart. Throughout the concert there will be discussion on how phrasing works for the performer and the listener.

SCCO will be joined by students of the Nesin Cultural Arts (NCA) Aspiring Young Musicians Program in performances of works by Florence Price and Georges Bizet. Come celebrate all the wonderful mothers and mother figures in our lives by treating them to an SCCO concert.   

The first performance is on Saturday, May 7 at 6 p.m. at the Hurleyville Performing Arts Center Ballroom in Hurleyville. Tickets: (adults $25, students $10) may be purchased at hurleyville artscentre.org. Masks are required. Advanced ticket purchase is encouraged. The second performance is on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 8 at 3 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Monticello. Tickets: (adults $25, students free) may be purchased at nesinculturalarts.eventbrite.com.
