Monticello started 2022 off with a game against O’Neill (7-1) on Tuesday. The Panthers led by three points after the first quarter, but O’Neill closed the gap and the two teams went into halftime tied at 35. O’Neill only outscored Monticello 15-14 in the third quarter, but a strong fourth quarter propelled the Raiders to victory, 66-58. Michael Mingo (21), Pedro Rodriguez (16), and Enderson Abraham (12) led Monticello’s scoring in the loss.

The Livingston Manor Wildcats hosted the Liberty Indians in a non-league matchup on Wednesday. Livingston Manor hung in as long as they could, but Liberty’s strong first half helped lead them to a 65-37 win on the road after suffering a loss to Fallsburg earlier in the week. Nasir Gibbs led all scorers with 28, and Cody Ricco added 20 in the win.

The Fallsburg Comets were back in action after their win against Liberty on Monday, this time at home against Burke. The 3-0 Comets battled in the first half, trailing 23-20 at the break. Girls Basketball

Fallsburg hosted Seward for their first game of 2022. The Comets put up a good fight, and kept their effort up until the final whistle but ultimately fell 57 to 18. Both teams were shaking the rust off in the first half, turning the ball over and struggling the put shots up, but the teams settled in and improved in the second half.

The Tri-Valley girls faced off against Chester at home on Tuesday. The JV game was intense, going to overtime as the Lady Hambletonians defeated the Lady Bears. The varsity game was not as close, as Chester heavily deployed their press early in the game and got out to a double digit lead that they would not relinquish. The final score of the game was 42-24 with Chester getting the road win over Tri-Valley.
