LOCH SHELDRAKE – SUNY Sullivan announced the promotion of Simon Clement to Interim Director of Athletics on Thursday, August 22.
Previously serving as the Interim Head Men’s Basketball Coach, Clement has played a crucial role in shaping the college’s athletic programs. In his new position, he will lead efforts to expand and enhance the overall sports experience at SUNY Sullivan.
As Interim Director of Athletics, Clement will oversee a diverse range of sports offerings aimed at fostering student success both on and off the field.
SUNY Sullivan’s athletics program features competitive teams in basketball, baseball, volleyball, cross-country, track and field and Esports. The college competes in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II men’s and women’s basketball and baseball, and NJCAA Division III men’s and women’s cross-country and track and field.
SUNY Sullivan also offers various intramural sports that provide students with opportunities to engage in recreational athletic activities. These programs are designed for those who want to participate in sports in a more relaxed and social environment compared to varsity-level competition.
Specific intramural sports include basketball, volleyball, soccer, flag football, workout challenges and E-Sports. Students can also participate in clubs such as men’s and women’s Esports.
“Our athletics program is committed to providing students with opportunities to excel in sports while supporting their academic and personal growth,” Clement said. “With our outstanding facilities and dedicated coaching staff, I’m eager to build on our strong tradition and elevate our programs to new heights.”
The SUNY Sullivan athletics program enriches the lives of its student-athletes and plays a vital role in the wider Sullivan County community. By hosting local tournaments, youth sports clinics, and community events, SUNY Sullivan fosters a sense of unity and pride within the county.
The college’s premier facilities, including the Paul Gerry Fieldhouse and The Diamond at Generals Park, serve as central venues for both collegiate and community activities, making SUNY Sullivan a key hub for sports and recreation in the region.
The Paul Gerry Fieldhouse serves as the heart of athletic activity on campus. The 30,000 square foot facility serves as the center for campus athletic activity and features a comprehensive fitness center, a cardio room, an indoor running track, and courts for basketball, volleyball, tennis, badminton, and racquetball.
The Fieldhouse is connected to the college’s geothermal heating and cooling system, making it the largest air-conditioned facility in the area. In addition to hosting college sports, the Paul Gerry Fieldhouse is a popular venue for community events and gatherings.
SUNY Sullivan is also home to The Diamond at Generals Park, an on-campus baseball field located behind the main campus. This state-of-the-art facility features a home double bullpen, a cutting-edge batting cage, a two-story press box, and two 10-row bleachers, designed to meet the needs of both athletes and spectators.
