SUNY Sullivan hosts youth baseball clinic

The SUNY Sullivan Baseball team hosted a youth baseball clinic at Paul Gerry Fieldhouse on their campus from 5-9 p.m. on Friday. The clinic was run by SUNY Sullivan Baseball Head Coach Randy Delanoy and Assistant Baseball Coach Jared Carrier. Delanoy was hired as the Head Baseball Coach in 2022 after previously serving as the Assistant Baseball Coach at SUNY Ulster from 2017-2022. Carrier has been on the coaching staff since August 2009 and is also the Head Junior Varsity Coach at SUNY Sullivan.

It was a free clinic which was sponsored by the Pete DeVantier Foundation for the third straight year. While it was free, donations were welcome and was open to the first 40 players who signed up. The foundation is a public charity located in Roscoe, which was established in 2019 in honor of Peter “Pete” Edward DeVantier, who passed away on New Year’s Eve in 2017 after a battle with cancer.

The youth players went through various drills with the SUNY Sullivan players for the three-hour clinic. They began by running before going into throwing, starting with wrist flip drills to get their throwing motion perfected. The college players were giving pointers throughout the afternoon to help out the youth players, which also included hitting later on.

SUNY Sullivan has their home opener against Lackawanna College at 3:30 today at The Diamond at Generals Park. They look to put a stop to their seven-game losing streak as they have begun the 2023 season 5-9.
