ACCORD - The chill is waning and the heat is coming on. In track and field that means with the emergence of warm weather will come a flurry of track meets that not only feature dual local clashes, but the big invitationals as well. Those meets, which bring together a bevy of schools large and small, tend to bring out the best in our local runners, jumpers and throwers who find themselves often pushed to evince their personal bests. We’ve already seen the effect at larger meets such as the New Paltz and Goshen Invitationals.

This past Saturday was the latest such large clash at the Rondout Valley Gander Invitational, at which both Tri-Valley and Sullivan West registered a number of impressive performances despite the fact that some performers were missing due to spring break. The meet featured an interesting array of schools including Marlboro, Rondout Valley, FDR, New Paltz, Beacon, Sullivan West, Tri-Valley, Wallkill, Red Hook, Highland, Rhinebeck, Onteora and Spackenkill, a mélange of schools that the state divides into Divisions I and II for the purpose of NYSPHSAA championship contention.

Wallkill, FDR and Beacon are Division I contenders, while the rest of the field fall under the Division II umbrella. Bear that in mind as you look over the results. For Sectional purposes the contenders included all four classes (A-D).

Monticello’s invitational is the next on the schedule, set for April 30. Then Tri-Valley will host its invitational on May 7.

Boys results: overall team- Tri-Valley and Sullivan West tied for 7th with 44 points apiece.
