TD Tree Days Grant helps support the greening of Newburgh

NEWBURGH — TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank®, has selected the Greater Newburgh Parks Conservancy to receive a TD Tree Days grant. TD Tree Days is a community-based program, created in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, that expands urban forests and green spaces in low to moderate income neighborhoods. The grant will allow Greater Newburgh Parks Conservancy (GNPC) and TD Bank volunteers to plant 13 trees at 211 Dupont Ave in the City of Newburgh on May 5.

“By working with the Greater Newburgh Parks Conservancy to improve green spaces in Newburgh, we are not only protecting the environment but also helping people and communities thrive. We are thrilled to bring back the in-person volunteering opportunities TD Tree Days provides and incredibly grateful to all of our volunteers and colleagues for their generous support helping to create a more vibrant and sustainable tomorrow,” said Shelley Sylva, Head of U.S. Corporate Citizenship at TD Bank.

TD Tree Days, the bank’s flagship volunteer and urban greening program, has brought together thousands of volunteers from Maine to Florida and has been a major contributor to the TD Ready Commitment’s goal of planting one million trees across North America by 2030. To date, thousands of volunteers have supported numerous environmental initiatives, helping TD plant more than 966,000 trees across North America.

“We are excited to participate in TD Tree Days and to work with the principals and staff of Graphic Technology Inc. (GTI) to plant some very impressive trees that will provide essential environmental and public health services to the community for decades to come,” says GNPC Board, Kathy Lawrence. “All too often our options are constrained by sidewalks, overhead wires, and underground utility lines, and we’re frequently limited to small street trees that provide limited annual benefits and tend to have a shorter lifespan,” she continued.

“In stunning contrast to that scenario, GTI owners Bob McCurdy and Lou Chappo are giving us access to a perfect planting location with none of those constraints and plenty of room to grow,” Lawrence stated. “This means we can plant trees within just a few feet of two City streets that really need shade, in an industrial part of the City in dire need of beautification,” Lawrence explained. “We look forward to planting and caring for some beautiful specimens that will become majestic providers of oxygen, shade, and habitat for one or even two centuries!”

TD Tree Days is one of many programs supporting the TD Ready Commitment, TD Bank’s corporate citizenship platform that makes strategic investments across four drivers of change in the communities TD serves to build a more inclusive and sustainable future for all. The TD Tree Days program supports the TD Ready Commitment’s Vibrant Planet driver of change, helping to improve the quality of our environment and address environmental inequities so people and economies can thrive.

“We have a responsibility to give back to the communities we serve, and through the TD Ready Commitment we are able to support initiatives, like TD Tree Days, that help ensure a sustainable and inclusive future for all,” added Sylva.
