Thanks Jack for listing important legislative bills in your March 18th “Sportsman Outdoors” column. I share my views on some of these Bills that make demands on the law-abiding instead of people illegally having firearms. Of 10 Bills listed, none go against the bad people.
The proposed $1 Million-plus liability insurance is a scam. Cuomo stopped the NRA’s insurance program years ago. This is unfocused as the people that need this insurance are the people that aren’t supposed to have a gun when they shoot, injure, or kill someone, not the law-abiding citizens.
A ten day waiting period, why? We have a NICS Check system for this and NYS makes you wait 6 months or more while being scrutinized to get a license to own a handgun. We have laws governing people that try to buy but aren’t allowed them, they are supposed to be arrested for trying but aren’t. Ten days less that you can defend yourself while being vulnerable.
Allow counties to opt-out of the Holiday Hunt? Might as well include all hunting! Not!
If you don’t want to hunt this week then don’t but don’t stop the rest of us that want to.
Fire Departments and groups raffle guns to raise funds but the winner must go to the gun store to get it and must pass a NICS background check before they can take possession of it. If they can’t pass they can take the cash offered. Second time for this bill.
Many people teach their children at a young age to appreciate and learn right from wrong with firearms. Teaching this in school is a great place to do so as long as the curriculum is correct. Schools used to have rifle ranges in them.
Start concentrating on those who are banned from owning instead!
