To the editor:

I would like to take this time to thank the entire Sullivan West High School community for their continued support of our graduating seniors. On June 21st, our community came together to present local scholarships to our seniors. Our community's support of our students is heartwarming and a powerful statement of their value of education. During these challenging economic times, every dollar presented to a college or technical school bound student alleviates some of the burden off the student and family. Every scholarship awarded will effect our students for a lifetime.

To include our community in this celebration, it was decided to invite representatives from the scholarship committees to speak about their scholarship and present it to the student. The response of committee members who joined us exceeded our expectations. Background and stories on how the scholarships were created, and qualities the recipients possessed created a stronger link to the student and the award presented. In the future, we hope to include more scholarship committee representatives sharing their stories and joining in our celebration of our students.

Part of what makes Sullivan West High School special is its community and their support. On behalf of our students, parents and entire staff at SWHS, I thank you. Go Bulldogs!
