It was built, and they came again.

Years ago Field of Dreams stars Kevin Costner, Ray Liotta, James Earl Jones and Amy Madigan were nominated for the Academy Award for the Best Picture in 1990 and was selected to the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress in 2017.

The 1989 film, adapted from W.P. Kinsella’s 1982 novel Shoeless Joe, tells the story.

Mark Sheldon, the Cincinnati Reds beat reporter for Major League Baseball (MLB) noted in his coverage of this year’s sec- ond edition of this great event that the two rivals, the Cubs and Reds were meeting amid the cornfield of Dyersville, Iowa, ad- jacent to where the iconic movie that starred Kevin Costner was filmed.

Sheldon, who noted that this game would count as a regular game said, “Thousands of baseball fans watching the game on TV as well as over 8,000 fans in the bleachers, were treated to a multitude of pregame and in-game activities that celebrated baseball.”

The Reds beat reporter wrote, “On a day filled with nostalgia about baseball and one very special movie, the Reds could’ve used an added sprinkle and mys- ticism from the cornfield....it was just about the only thing missing from the game they lost to the Cubs, 4-2 at the Field of Dreams site.”

One can tell that Baseball lives and is alive from talks I heard about the new stadium in the cornfield at Dyersville, Iowa.

fans go to a baseball game played in the middle of a cornfield in Iowa.

For sure vacation plans next year will include a trip to Dyers- ville to be part of baseball being played in that now famous cornfield.
