The Freedom to complain

To the editor:
I’d like to respond to a recent letter that a gentleman wrote regarding current times and ‘Never Again’.
I, too, am old enough to remember family members who fought in WWII and the phrase of promise that the Allies made: Never Again. The gentleman rightly pointed out the threat we now face about our national stance as Ukraine battles for their Freedom.
As we all see so vividly every day in the news broadcasts, not only is the Ukraine being demolished in front of our eyes...if we examine carefully, the threat to Ukrainian Freedom is also a threat to our own. We probably should take a serious look at our internal national whining and be aware that it will only take the ‘push of one button’ to make all of our gripes seem pretty unimportant.
When I see the terrible condition created by the bombing of cities and the weeping of mothers and their children, I think about this taking place in America. Imagine a situation where we might be fending off an enemy from overtaking Albany, or Binghamton (or any city near you).
We can go on cramming junk on Facebook, planning our work and social lives. Aren’t we lucky? Think of the futility of crying about our ‘freedom’ when griping about wearing a mask. Think of how insignificant it is (by comparison) to complain about our ‘freedom’ when banning ‘To Kill A Mockingbird’, etc…as well as some of the current topics we get absorbed in these days.
The important thing to remember is the fact that we have the freedom to complain about our freedom! This could change very quickly.
Think peace.
