Wow........I didn't get a lot of excitement from area baseball fans with The Houston Astros winning the 2022 World Series over the Philadelphia Phillies.
So for some baseball fans it will seem like a long winter.
The man in charge, Commissioner of Baseball Robert D Manfred Jr. talks about, "the skill of our players and the success of the new playoff format that are good for business."
Good for business easily refers to a business making money and baseball tells us that this past season the sport resulted in almost $11 billion in league revenues.
The commissioner pointed out that, “Its incumbent upon us to strike a balance between honoring our history and implementing change that benefits our fans."
Here are baseball changes that the commissioner is saying, "I think we're about to approach a very fun version of the sport of baseball where it's very athletic, there's more balls in play, and we get to see the athleticism of certainly the infielders and outfielders."
The 2023 version of Major league baseball will see pitch timers that will facilitate a pace of play that an overwhelming number of baseball fans want.
The change in the infield will facilitate what fans want as shift restrictions will restore more traditional positioning of defensive players...resulting in more action from balls in play.
Larger bases hopefully will keep players healthier on the field, with the added benefit of a slight incentive to be more aggressive on the basepaths.
Sit back baseball fans and watch and enjoy the trade wars.....the real game of baseball is really only about six months away.
